The Nutrient Combo to Help Kick-Start Your Metabolism

If your New Year’s Resolution involves shedding a few pounds, eating less carbs and sugar, or simply trying to maintain a healthy metabolism for enhanced fitness and better living, consider adding our “Ultra Weight Loss” (aka, UWL) injection to your weekly routine.

As we all know, there’s no magic one solution when it comes to weight loss. Shedding pounds involves a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, adjusting your diet and exercising regularly. Another factor involves boosting your metabolism, which can sometimes feel impossible, especially the older we get. Thankfully, there are a few key nutrients that can help kick-start and maintain weight loss, manage sugar and carb cravings, and keep your metabolism running like a well-oiled machine. Can I get a HALLELUJAH?!

The “Ultra Weight Loss” (UWL) IM injection is a combination of high dose B12, MIC, L-Carnitine, and B5. We recommend doing it once per week for at least 8 weeks. Here’s why this signature nutrient cocktail works.

MIC

MIC is short for Methionine, Inositol, & Choline – three nutrients that play an important role in the way our bodies use fat, as well as detoxification pathways. These compounds support the liver and gallbladder by decreasing fat deposits, as well as speeding up the metabolism of fat and its removal. Specifically:

  • Methionine supports weight loss (and overall health) by helping to remove heavy metals within the body while breaking down fat deposits. This helps to prevent a toxic build-up of fat in the arteries. Methionine is also converted to cytosine, a precursor of Glutathione, which is an essential antioxidant that aids in detoxification of the liver.
  • Inositol supports the transfer of nutrients at the cellular level, and converts fats into useful forms of energy. Inositol also assists in establishing healthy cell membranes, which nourishes our nervous system.
  • Choline helps maintain a healthy level of cholesterol in the blood, which is good for everyone, weight conscious or not. Choline is also the precursor of betaine, which enhances liver function and aids in the production of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.

L-Carnitine

L-Carnitine is derived from the amino acid Lysine, and found in nearly all cells of the body. It plays a critical role in the production of energy and in weight loss. Specifically, L-carnitine transports long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria (the “powerhouse” of our cells) so they can be oxidized to produce energy. Given its key function, L-carnitine is concentrated in tissues like skeletal and cardiac muscle that use fatty acids as a dietary fuel.

Bonus: L-carnitine easily crosses the blood-brain barrier and has been found to reverse stress-related mood and cognitive disorders.

Vitamin B5

The adrenal-loving vitamin B5 not only helps our bodies mitigate the negative effects of stress, it also converts food into fuel (glucose), which the body then uses to produce energy. Furthermore, at the cellular level, B5 is used to make coenzyme A (CoA), a chemical compound that helps enzymes break down fatty acids, as well as perform other metabolic functions. In fact, several double-blind studies suggest that B5 may help reduce triglycerides in people who have high cholesterol.

It has also been proposed that B5 may have an antioxidant effect that reduces low-grade inflammation – a contributing factor in obesity and numerous chronic diseases.

Vitamin B12

While vitamin B12 itself won’t shed the pounds for you, it does help the way your body absorbs and utilizes nutrients. Instead of turning these nutrients into fat, B12 helps turn them into energy. Studies have shown that supplementation with B vitamins can effectively reduce weight gain and plasma levels of lipids. Interestingly, vitamin B12 also functions as a cofactor for methionine synthesis (specifically, it facilitates the conversion of homocysteine to methionine). Don’t you love it when discussions come full circle?

What About Food Cravings?

In addition to the oh-so-significant task of fat burning, it’s not a coincidence that all of these nutrients play a role in the health and stabilization of our nervous system, stress response, mood, and cognitive function.

Cravings are a sign that the body is experiencing some kind of imbalance, and they often show up when we’re fatigued, depressed, or dieting. Both low blood sugar and low serotonin (our “happy” neurotransmitter) send a signal to the brain that it needs a pick-me-up. It is this signal – which we cannot consciously control – that causes a craving for sugar or carbohydrates.

Because sugar and simple carbohydrates release a burst of serotonin, we feel good for a short time. However, the cycle starts all over again fairly quickly. Ironically, the more sugar one consumes, the more one craves it because sugar excess can lead to insulin resistance.

In fact, persistent high levels of cortisol (our stress hormone) contributes to the development of insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, hypertension and obesity. It’s a downward spiral that unhealthy forms of dieting and poorly managed stress will exacerbate.

When you give your body the nutrients it needs to stay energized, burn fat, and manage stress, you’re on the path to Ultra Weight Loss!
