Reverse the Clock with NAD+

While the term “anti-aging” often conjures up notions of decadent face creams and extreme makeovers, not all efforts at turning back the clock are dubious marketing schemes. In fact, as our population steadily grows older, the scientific community’s attention to age-related conditions and therapies has swiftly grown alongside it.

One popular theory of aging maintains that the source of our woes is our Mitochondria. Often referred to as our cells’ “powerhouses”, Mitochondria perform numerous functions within our tissues, including energy production, immune defense, and stem cell regulation. Unfortunately, as we age, so do our Mitochondria. A decline in mitochondrial quality and activity has been correlated with a wide range of age-related diseases, including heart failure, dementia, chronic inflammation, and cancer, to name a few.

Naturally, one might ask: Can anything be done about our aging Mitochondria?!

Research suggests it may be possible to reverse mitochondrial decay and delay certain aspects of aging with a molecule called NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). NAD+ is an essential cofactor involved in fundamental biological processes of all living cells, especially Mitochondrial energy production.

NAD+ came into the limelight in 2013 when genetics researchers at Harvard Medical School discovered that NAD+ was able to revive older cells, making them resemble more youthful cells. The team reported that giving older mice NAD+ for just one week made 2 year old mice tissue resemble that of 6 month old mice. For humans, that would be like a 60 year old’s tissues resembling those of a 20 year old!

One of the researchers, Dr. David Sinclair, explained it like this:

As we age, our NAD+ levels drop significantly (~ 50%). As NAD+ numbers decline, the communication between the cell and its energy source (Mitochondria) breaks down, and the cell becomes vulnerable to common diseases of aging. Basically, NAD+ levels within our mitochondria dictate cell survival and potential signs of aging.

So what does that mean for B12 LOVE clients? Whether you’re actively trying to reverse the clock or just want to feel amazing, a NAD+ injection can help increase energy and focus, boost metabolism, promote detoxing, and improve cardiovascular health. B12 LOVE clients and staff have also reported sleeping more deeply at night after an injection of NAD+.

NAD+ is available at all B12 LOVE locations. Ask about it at your next visit to a B12 LOVE.
