Getting Ahead of Seasonal Allergies

Allergies can wreak havoc on your body, but the right nutrients can make all the difference.

If the change of seasons sends you into a storm of sniffles and other symptoms, it can feel like you went from totally fine to debilitated overnight. Also known as “hay fever” or allergic rhinitis, seasonal allergies arise when proteins on pollen or mold trigger the body’s immune system to create an inflammatory cascade. During this process, mast cells release histamine, the compound responsible for causing symptoms. Most people experience sneezing, sore throat, runny nose, headache, watery or itchy eyes, and fatigue. However, in people with existing respiratory or immune issues, more serious health consequences can occur.

While it may be tempting to grab a boatload of antihistamines and nasal decongestants at the drugstore, these medications only provide temporary relief from symptoms and can cause unpleasant side effects, such as drowsiness or dry mucous membranes. Instead, focus on strengthening your immune system and removing toxins that add stress to your body

By introducing the right nutrients and supplements into your seasonal wellness routine, you can get ahead of hay fever before it takes over your life.

B5 (Dexpanthenol)

One of the many benefits of vitamin B5 is that it helps to support adrenal function. Adrenal glands produce hormones that help regulate metabolism, immune defenses, blood pressure, response to stress, and other essential functions. B5 also helps add a little pep to your step, which we all need during allergy season! (Vitamin B5 is available via IM injection or IV drip)

MIC

MIC is a combination of three nutrients – Methionine, Inositol, and Choline. While it is best known for its fat metabolizing benefits, MIC can help alleviate allergies too.

Methionine is an essential amino acid responsible for numerous metabolic actions in the body, including reducing histamine, thereby minimizing allergy symptoms.

Inositol has been known to have a calming effect on the nervous system, which can help reduce stress and anxiety. Research has shown that high levels of stress can worsen existing allergies, possibly by upsetting the balance of substances in your body that control immune response.

Choline is shown to be so effective at modulating immune inflammation and suppressing oxidative stress, that it is recommended as an adjunct therapy for asthma patients. Asthma attacks are often triggered by seasonal weather changes and can cause severe damage or death if not adequately managed.

(MIC is available via IM injection or IV drip)

Vitamin D

Also known as “the sunshine vitamin”, vitamin D is produced in the body when ultraviolet rays from sunlight strike the skin and trigger vitamin D synthesis. Our genes are directly influenced by vitamin D and a proper immune response simply cannot occur without it. Therefore, a lack of vitamin D will result in uncontrolled inflammation.

The National Institute of Health recommends maintaining a level of ≥50 nmol/L (≥20 ng/mL) Vit D for adults. Consult a B12 LOVE medical practitioner before beginning vitamin D supplementation to find out how much is right for you. (Only available via IM injection.)

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

This water-soluble “wonder” vitamin promotes healing, works as an antioxidant, supports immune functioning, and also acts as a natural antihistamine. Studies show that vitamin C depletion is associated with increased histamine levels, and that supplementing with vitamin C lowers histamine levels. (Only available via IV drip)

Zinc

Zinc gained considerable attention during the COVID-19 pandemic due to its ability to help treat and prevent respiratory tract infections. This is because zinc supports healthy immune functioning and reduces inflammation. We recommend getting your zinc via IV drip at any B12 LOVE lounge location, as oral supplements can sometimes upset the stomach.

Glutathione

Found naturally in the body as a product of the liver, glutathione is a master antioxidant that affects every system in the body, especially the immune system and lungs. Specifically, it offers protection against oxidative stress, mercury & toxic metals, alcohol, and organic pollutants. (Available via injection or IV drip)

Ask a local B12 LOVE health practitioner how you can get these nutrients in a convenient cocktail injection, IV drip, or supplement for home use.
