4 Nutrients To Help Boost Collagen Production

Most people would be surprised to learn that collagen is the most abundant protein in the body (yes, the entire body!). As such, it is essential for optimal functioning of our connective tissue, especially the skin. Not surprisingly, after age 25 collagen production declines by 1% each year. It is this reduction in collagen that causes our skin to sag and wrinkle. In order to support collagen production as we age, we must encourage our bodies to produce more of it. The best way to do this is by giving our bodies the right nutrients and supplements.

Straight Collagen

One of the easiest and most effective ways to boost collagen in the body is simply by giving it to the body directly. Specifically, it’s collagen III that we want. Collagen III not only strengthens our skin, but also stimulates sugar molecules that retain water, which results in plumper and more hydrated skin. The more collagen the skin has, the better it can maintain elasticity (and continue to produce more collagen). B12 LOVE carries multiple, high-quality oral collagen supplements that come in a convenient powder form. Just add it to your water bottle and off you go!

Vitamin C

We’ve gushed over Vitamin C before, mostly for its powerful healing and immune system benefits. BUT, did you know that vitamin C is also required for collagen production? When it comes to both looking and feeling younger, Vitamin C is one of the best anti-aging hacks out there. Pro-Tip: Ask for our Vitamin C-packed Fountain Of Youth IV drip at your next B12 LOVE visit. It’s a client and staff favorite for maintaining healthy skin, energy, and mood.

Lysine

Lysine is an amino acid with numerous benefits. Most people recognize it for its ability to help fight cold sores and other viruses, but it’s also essential for the production of collagen. In fact, lysine is one of the main amino acids that make up the structure of collagen. It’s also super easy to incorporate into your wellness routine, as it’s available in an IM injection, IV drip, or oral supplement at all B12 LOVE Lounge locations. Oh, and btw… not only will lysine support collagen production in your skin, but also in your lips. Pucker up! 😉

Zinc

Surprise, surprise… zinc is another immune boosting nutrient that is also amazing for creating healthy skin. Specifically, zinc is an important cofactor in the synthesis of collagen. Essentially, when zinc is present in the body, it activates the proteins that start collagen production. In addition to helping the body make more collagen, it also protects collagen from becoming damaged. If that isn’t enough to make you crave more zinc, keep in mind that zinc can also prevent and lessen the prevalence of acne.

If there is a downside to zinc, it’s that oral zinc supplements can sometimes cause an upset stomach or diarrhea. We recommend getting your zinc via IV drip. It’s fast, extremely efficient, and comes with none of the yucky side effects. B12 LOVE has multiple IV formulas containing zinc. Consult one of our licensed medical practitioners to find out which drip is best for you.
